The Midwest Weavers Association holds a biennial conference that is a favorite among the fiber folks around the region. The event includes workshops (ranging from three-day intensives to full and half-day sessions), a vendor hall, a fashion show, exhibits, tours, and more. Each conference event is hosted by a different guild in the Midwest.
In 2017, Indiana will be the host for Midwest Weavers Conference! The group of excited weavers, spinners, felters, and basketmakers who have already started laying the event groundwork are scattered throughout the state and represent many different guilds. They would love to have your help! Feel free to contact Susan Markle, event Chair, at MWC2017.chair@gmail.com.
Dear Guilds and Guild Members,
Weaving Indiana and SWIFT are co-sponsoring organizers for Midwest Weavers Conference, Textiles at the Crossroads, that will be held at Butler University in Indianapolis June 11‒17, 2017. The Butler campus will be a wonderful site for the conference. It is large enough to offer ample space and yet small enough to be easily walked and close to other attractions in Indianapolis.
The steering committee is working hard to plan for a well-organized conference that will provide an exciting learning environment. We wanted to let all the area guilds and members know where the conference planning is at this moment. There are many, many opportunities for everyone to participate and have fun in the planning for this event.
There were about 125 volunteers at the Midwest Weavers Conference in Minneapolis this summer. They were vital to the success of the conference and helped everyone have a positive experience. The volunteers provided support to manage the guild, member and instructor exhibits, answer attendees questions, support tours, and a myriad of other tasks.
At this time there is also a need for a co-chair for organizing the Fashion Show, guild(s) to plan and manage weaving award ribbons, and guilds to contribute items to the “goody bags.”
Please consider how you and your guild can help support this conference by volunteering your time and skills. Susan Markle, chairperson, can be contacted at mwc2017.chair@gmail.com. Everyone is invited, and needed, for the conference to be successful. We look forward to hearing from everyone and working together for a fun 2017 Textiles at the Crossroads conference.
Sincerely,
Midwest Weavers Conference 2017 Steering Committee
