Replicating a Commercial Yarn
Saturday, March 14th, Noon-4pm (4-hour class)
St Thomas Lutheran Church, Bloomington.
Have you ever seen a yarn you would like to spin for yourself? Or been given a yarn to
duplicate? You can replicate those yarns with the help of some simple tools and
calculations. First exercises will involve spinning to twist and learning basic yarn
measurements. Then sample yarns will distributed for students to match twist per inch,
wraps per inch, twist angle, count and yards per pound. As this is a technical class it will
focus on sampling and involve some math. We will work primarily with wool. Some
blends may use silk, cotton, or linen. If you have an allergy to one of these fibers, please
notify the instructor at registration.
