Spinners and Weavers of Indiana Fiber and Textiles

Last SOAR in St. Charles, IL

Hello everyone!

As some of you have already heard, this will be the final year for SOAR (Spin-Off Autumn Retreat). Editor Amy Clarke Moore sent out an announcement a few weeks ago to the Spinning Daily email list. In her email, she also mentions that they are planning another spinning conference, likely in conjunction with Interweave Knitting Lab in Manchester, NH. SOAR is a unique event and will be deeply missed, but we can hope that the new event will carry on the tradition of joyful learning. This year, SOAR is near Chicago in St. Charles, IL. So, if you have ever wanted to attend the event, this is a great chance for those of us in the Midwest to make SOAR’s 31st anniversary an event to remember!

If you are unfamiliar with SOAR, it is hosted by Spin-Off Magazine and has been an epicenter of the spinning community for decades. Spinners travel from around the country and abroad to gather for a week of intense learning and camaraderie. The event moves around the country, alternating between the coasts and, typically, the upper midwest. Last year, it was held in Lake Tahoe, California—this year’s is ever so much closer! A number of workshops and retreats still have spaces, but they are filling quickly now that the announcement about the final event has been made public. You can get more information at the link above and also at spinningdaily.com.
